Edward Martin Computer Services (EMCS) has worked for a number of years with Watchet Festival to provide Wi-Fi services for retailers and artists backstage.
The festival site had never benefited from the best internet and the connection had been haphazard in previous years due to its rural location.
This year, however, was different. The tech had finally arrived to be able to deliver faster internet than many people enjoy in their town homes… and out in the middle of the countryside.
EMCS started offering installation of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service in June and came to the conclusion that this would be the best solution for Watchet Festival’s Wi-Fi service to connect retailers to the banking services and artists to their social media.
Instead of a crackly, intermittent and slow line, all retailers and artists alike were able to enjoy and benefit from lightening quick links to their card service providers or YouTube.
Mark Bale, Watchet Festival’s organiser, said: “The equipment [EMCS] recommended and installed worked fantastically.”
James Richmond, the new managing director of EMCS, added: “I remember seeing the line of satellites crossing the night sky early in lock down and thought there must be great benefit to be gained from Elon Musk’s initiative. This big leap in technology ensures everyone who lives or runs businesses in remote areas with poor internet cover can get a cracking connection with everything that comes with it.”
