Malicious software or "malware" covers a range of unwanted applications such as viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware and root-kits. The effects and consequences of a malware infection are numerous, for example:

Malware can steal private information such as financial details.
Change system settings and delete important files.
Slow your computer and cause it to crash or freeze.
Alter browser behaviour by re-directing to unwanted web sites.
Display illicit or fake pop-up adverts.

Unfortunately, malware is extremely common and consequently it is easy to become infected - you don't have to surf the web 24 hours a day! E-mail and E-mail attachments are the most common route of infection - even an E-mail that may have come from family or friends, their computer is probably infected with malware too.

In addition, websites, instant messaging and P2P software such as Limewire are all sources of infection. Malware makers often target children with offers of free downloads (for example, animated cursors) that install un-wanted spyware to track web use or display unwanted adverts.

Malware removal

We use a range of anti-malware software to scan your computer and identify threats. While no single application works, used in combination with our extensive experience of malware cleaning we can remove most problems.

In some cases the software running your computer may be damage beyond repair and we may need to completely re-install Microsoft Windows. If so, we can help you back up files and user profiles and then restore the machine to factory settings. We can also help you re-install and activate additional software installed on your computer after you purchased it. To do this, we need the original installation disks and/or the activation key. We will advise you at the time on what we need to accomplish this.
